Awashima

15 minutes by express boat from the port of Suda located in west of Kagawa, when you see an emerald green building, you should get ready to land. This building was used to be the sailor's school. We can find many historical documents of the period, and this building was made crossing Japanese and Occidental style. It is the symbol of Awashima.

Althought the history of sailors are deeply rooted there, the island is now more known for art. Young artists are being actively supported and their art can be seen in the art village of Awashima. Another interesting place on the island is the Missing Post Office, an art project that uses an old post office to keep letters with unknown recipients. There are also many artworks created by the inhabitants of the island.

Of course, the art is not the only interest in this island. From May to October, sea fireflies twinkle in blue near the ocean. If you contact the accomodation "Le Port Awashima" in advance of your stay, it would be easier to see the sea fireflies. Therefore, even though you can visit the whole island in a day, we warmly recommend that you spend one night there.
