Ieshima

Ieshima is about 20km far from the town of Himeji, in Hyogo prefecture, its archipelago includes around 40 islands. Between Hyogo and Kagawa prefecture, the area has been long known as a fertile fishery ground. Ieshima can easily be called a fishery island, but as it is located only 30 mins far from Himeji, in the middle of the natural park of the Setouchi Sea, it also attracts many tourists.

Once you land in the island, you will discover that it is not only a nostalgic fishermen’s town. You can see fishermen’s boat mooring in the port, small village-like yet modern houses and cranes operating on the shipyard. Yet, an old narrow street appears suddenly. Iejima features a mixture of old and new.

If you fancy a cycling tour, you can rent a bicycle. There are rental bike shops in the island. It will be great fun to ride on a bike, there are a lot to see inside the island: the Ieshima-jinja shrine associated with Sugawara no Michizane and a nice spot called "Ieshima jikkei", where you can get the whole view of the Setouchi inland sea.

After you explore the island by the bike, you might become hungry. Why don' you try fresh seafood caught at the island, it is a great opportunity to eat extemely fresh seafood cooked in Sashimi-style, Sushi-style or Nabe-style (cooked in a steam bowl), the choice is yours.
